The Gender Statistics unit was also established in the then Central Statistics
Department in 1990 to capture statistics that adequately reflects differences and
inequalities in the situation of women and men in all areas of life.
The role of the gender statistician is to produce statistics which entails disaggregating
individual data by sex and other characteristics to reveal differences or inequalities,
between men and women.
The source of data for the gender statistics is mainly from population and housing
census, household surveys and administrative records.
